Drowned victim still untraced; Ops on to retrieve body

Despite a vigorous search on the second day by a joint team of Dimapur police personnel, IR Chumukedima unit, Assam Rifles personnel, friends and villagers, the body of the Naga youth who was drowned while swimming with friends at Chathe River Tuesday afternoon could not be retrieved till late afternoon Wednesday.
Operations to retrieve the body was likely to resume Thursday.
The victim identified as 32 year-old A. Imna Longkumer, son of N. Akang Longkumer from Ungma Village, was reportedly swept away by the strong water current while swimming after he had gone for picnic near Chathe river with two of his friends.
According to family sources, Imna along with two of his friends went around 2.30 p.m. and the fateful incident occurred at around 4.30 p.m.
Bereaved relatives said that the search effort would continue for about six days and if unsuccessful, the funeral service would be held as per the village tradition.
Expressing deep gratitude to all the sympathizers, the father, Akang Longkumer said Imna was the eldest son and his son’s demise would be a great loss to the family.
