Inmates at Central Jail Dimapur went on a rampage, pelting stones inside the premises in protest against alleged neglect Monday evening but the situation was brought under control, sources said.

It was learnt that the matter came to light when a headmate (identified as one Kivi, designated leader of the inmates) spread rumor that his plea for medical attention went unheeded by the jail staff.

The sources said the headmate had asked the jail staff to send a woman masseur (posted to provide massage to women with muscular pains).

When it was refused, the headmate then told the other inmates that his request for medical attention was ignored. This led to protest when inmates began pelting stones after the jail staff left the office.

Later, the jail staff explained the facts to the inmates after which the situation was brought under control.
