Khezhakeno Welfare Society, Kohima (KWSK) Tuesday said that despite clear cut boundary demarcation, villagers of Tunjoy have time and again encroached into Khezhakeno land logging away timber worth crores of rupees.

In a statement, KWSK president Merhaso Pfuno and general secretary Pfuchupe Koza said that several warnings issued by Khezhakeno villagers to Tunjoy villagers have gone unheeded.

Alleging that Tunjoy villagers crossed over the border for “illegal cultivation”, KWSK said the demarcated pillars at the border still stood as a clear proof of Khezhakeno’s jurisdiction.

KWSK also clarified “facts” leading to the apprehending of the four persons by Khezhakeno youth on July 21. KWSK said that the four were reportedly caught red handed with a Shaktiman truck while “stealing” Khezhakeno forest products.

The fourth person was a woman, “reportedly a feeding mother”, who was soon set free on humanitarian grounds but with a warning, added KWSK.

The society reiterated that the whole stretch of inter-state boundary as well as the boundary between the two villages had been settled and well demarcated with boundary stones which were laid long ago.
