Around twenty houses and granaries of Sangtak village have been severely affected by the heavy landslide stretching up to 30 m creating fear that it might further slip down covering more than 2000 m. The mud and slush from the landslide have not only obstructed communication route creating inconvenience to travelers but also left many people homeless.

Road blockade caused by the landslide have prevented transport vehicles from plying in the route for a week now and the situation was likely to continue if necessary measures were not taken immediately.

Kongkhum Range Thangjam (KRT) comprising of five villages visited Sangtak village where part of the range road and village were affected by the landslide. KRT had called a meeting with the councils of the four villages of Sangtak, Yonyu, Yokumsang and Kumpung for immediate measures to be taken to avoid further road blockade. The Thangjam also appealed to leaders and the state government to take immediate measures and understand the problems of these affected villages. (Correspondent)
