Describing the extraction of sand gravel from river bed, near Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), 4th Mile as “very dangerous and beyond imagination”, Dhansiri River Flood Control Board (DRFCB) Saturday expressed apprehension that after some years, the hospital area would be washed away and the Niuland Bridge, which was the main life-line for the public, would also be cut-off.

Also, expressing pain at the unabated excavation of sand gravel and stone in the Dhansiri River, the DRFCB chairman Hokheto Kiba in a release said excavation of sand and sand gravel and boulders was not only being carried out near CIHSR but in other part of Dhansiri River tributary, Diphu.

The board while lauding the Diphupar Village Council decision to ban heavy machineries, excavators at Diphu river said not only public of DVC jurisdiction but all the villagers and colonies residing on the banks of the river should cooperate in stopping excavation, otherwise, cautioned DRFCB after some gap of years, the problem would be beyond human control.

DRFCB has requested administration to take necessary steps by organizing public awareness programmes and seminars to educate the common people or else the problem would badly affect common people.
