After meeting with prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh and union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to impress upon the government of India for an early solution over the Naga political issue, all 60 legislators of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly would be fanning out across the state be the end of the current year to seek support from the people for the expected agreement.
In lieu of expectations that an agreement would be reached within this year’s end, the legislators would in all probability, meet with public from November 2012 to March 2013.This however remains speculative, the sources said.
According to reliable sources, the legislators from both the ruling and opposition, under the Joint Legislators Forum (JLF) have made it clear to the government of India that any agreement has to be “honourable and acceptable to all sections of Nagas”. They also urged upon the prime minister for a solution at the earliest.
Shinde while meeting with the Nagaland legislators have requested them to meet him again but in a smaller group so as to have a detailed discussion on the form of agreement that would emerge.
The government of India has made it clear that all other groups have to be roped in for an agreement. Speculations are rife over the kind of agreement where some media have concluded that it would be in the form of a “supra state” while others opined it could be in the form of formation of a “pan Naga” parliament having a lower and upper house.
When contacted, an official source here revealed that suggestions did not mean that they were finalized.
