Ao Student conference- AKM president N. Akok Longkumer and his colleagues paid a surprise visit to Imokongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) to supervise the management of the hospital.  The team also met the Medical Superintendent (MS) and other medical officials.

During the visit, 4 doctors out of 17 doctors attached at the district hospital were found absent from work. Out of the 4 absentees, it was learnt that one doctor was attached to TB Hospital Mokokchung and another 2 on leave for one year and study leave respectively.

Further, the team found out that one doctor who joined in 2009 had never reported to the district hospital.
It was also learnt that IMDH School of Nursing, Principal was irregular and absent even during the surprise visit.

In this connection, AKM notified all erring medical staff to report and attend to their duties at the earliest and also warned that stern actions would be taken against any erring medical staff if student body found them neglecting their duties.

The student leaders also said CT scan machine at the hospice was out of order since last year and no radiologist to operate the machine as well.

Even the post of assistant nursing superintendent was lying vacant and was yet to be occupied, said the team and lamented the non-existence of public toilets and bathrooms in the hospital.

The team also detected poor workmanship of OPD building which was completed in the year 2010, as a result of which, water leakage through the roof have been causing inconvenience to the patients as well as the public.

They also highlighted on the outdated 60 year old hospital building “already rotting”, and the need to renovate it at the earliest. President, AKM, N. Akok Longkumer said the department in-charge as well as the government needed to look into the pitiable condition of the hospital at the earliest since IMDH serves not only the public of Mokokchung district but other neighbouring districts like Tuensang, Zunheboto and Longleng.

He also said that he was positive that the department in-charge would look into the matter and take necessary actions at the earliest.
