Though many state farmers have undertaken exposure trips to other states in mainland India, only a handful of them take up trades back home.
Deputy Commissioner Phek, Nikhashe Sema said this while speaking at a programme on district level innovative activities on August 16 in Phek.
In his address DC called on farmers of the district to be innovative and to take up trades which were viable and potential in-order to have a secure life.
“We have to change our attitude and take up different projects by being innovative to uplift the economy of our district,” he added.
He said people from mainland India become successful businessman as they start their venture from a humble beginning. However on the other hand, he said, Nagas do not have the temperament to take up projects thinking of “profit in terms of lakhs”, and ultimately flop.
In order to be successful, he said, Nagas should learn from people from mainland India and though one has to sacrifice and struggle in the beginning, one should persevere so as to reap the benefit of their hard labour.
He also lauded Chizopra (a local entrepreneur) who after attending the North-East Agri Expo at Guwahati, set up his own business by supplying seeds of various kinds and agricultural tools and equipments to the public from Phek town.
Nikhashe who is also the chairman of ATMA governing body Phek, handed a cheque of Rs.50000 to Chizopra on the occasion. Earlier, Nikhashe inaugurated a ‘Manna Agro Seeds Agency’, a business establishment run by Chizopra, in Phek town.
