Team Metamorphosis with Campus Icon 2012 contenders offered a community service to Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital Wokha on August 20.
Thungdemo Kyong, chief, team metamorphosis, Wokha in a release said, the team cleaned the toilets (which perhaps have never been brushed even once ever since its construction), the side drains and the compound.
The social work with one of the dirtiest task was organized as an initiative to create public awareness that one should not only wait upon the government and the staff or even keep on blaming them but also extend cooperation, and remind the authorities in performing their duties sincerely, said Thungdemo .
“The community service performed by the contenders of Campus Icon 2012 deserves appreciation from one and all. They are all young school students but have shown concern for the community by doing things which many would not like to”, added Thungdemo, adding the team observed that many of the people using sanitary facilities were yet to realize the “importance and joy of cleanliness” and also that the hospital authorities “don’t seem to be bothered about checking the facilities (whether the toilets, cabins, instruments & accessories in the labour, delivery room etc)”.
“The entire electrification is in a miserable state and needs urgent attention”, disclosed the team. The team also lamented saying, "For any case, the rich people can easily go wherever they want to, but the common people do not have any other option, they have to come to the “district hospital”.
As a matter of fact, the government has placed good number of medical officers to attend to the needs of the patients, but sadly, only few are regular in their duties (as it has been found).
It is understood that at times, there are and have been also difficulties for the concerned officers to perform their duties, but we are all suppose to understand that the amount of responsibility which God has given to each of us is to be taken and performed with much sincerity, except when we are compelled by situations & circumstances to attend to something else".
The team also highlighted that residential quarters for the medical officers was another urgent need and lamented that the MS was at present staying at the 'trauma centre' due to non-availability of adequate officer's quarter.
The team also said it would be visiting the hospital to make sure that it was not neglected "either by the government or concerned authorities", that the sanitary facilities are also kept clean and tidy.
The team expressed gratitude to N. Lotha Pharmacy, Life Pharmacy, Health Care pharmacy, Central pharmacy, Lifeline Medicos, Sashi's pharmacy, Metro Pharmacy, Heal Pharmacy, Durga Store, Shanpan & Sons, Santosh Hardware, Mahavir store for donating phenol, soap, mineral water, harpic toilet cleaner, hand gloves, dettol, etc.
