State government has cancelled its notification dated September 2, 2012 constituting the high level damage assessment committee to assess damages to properties in the incidents that occurred in Dimapur September 1 last.
In a home department (political branch) notification, state chief secretary Lalthara stated that the governor of Nagaland is pleased to announce the cancellation of the notification in view of the district administration and police compiling the damage assessment reports.
WSYF responds
Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has disclosed that it has decided to own moral responsibility for the September 1 vandalism in Dimapur and would compensate the losses and at the same time it said that the Angami Public Organization (APO) “should also take responsibility” for the death of late Kisheto (during the September 1 incident in Dimapur).
WSYF president K. Kakiye Zhimomi and general secretary Mughavi Chishi, in a joint statement, disclosed that the Front was compelled to issue the above in view of the statement of APO which it claimed “misunderstood” the benevolent gestures of the Kohima Sumi Hoho and Sumi Hoho.
WSYF said Sumis honoured the compromise reached between Kohima Sumi Hoho and Kohima Village Council following the murder of late Kivika on August 31 which was followed by the September 1 incident in Dimapur during which late Kisheto Achumi was killed.
Meanwhile, Western Angami Public Organisation (WAPO), through its president Vikehielie Victor, has said the “wanton destruction caused to business establishments along NH 29 in Chumükedi and Dimapur on September 1, has stirred deep indignation in all who have seen, read or heard about them.”
WAPO said it visited the “sites of devastation” and described them as “scenes of tragic and sad actions of human disgrace” that all were prone to but “for the grace of God.”
