Childline Dimapur along with Women cell Dimapur Wednesday rescued a male child labourer after receiving a call from an anonymous informant.
In a statement, Childline Dimapur nodal director Subonenba Longkumer said that they were told that the child immediately needed “care and protection”. He said that as information provided, the child hailed from Tuensang district and was a “domestic help” who was “severely ill treated and beaten up” by the owner regularly.
After gathering necessary details, Childline team along with Women cell Dimapur rescued the child from the spot. The child now under the care of CHILDLINE Dimapur, would be produced before Child Welfare Committee Dimapur for further hearing and necessary steps to be initiated, said the statement.
Childline is a national, 24 hour, emergency phone outreach service for children in need of care and protection and is currently operational in 180 cities.
It is a programme under Union Ministry of Women and Child Development in partnership with state governments, NGOs, bilateral/multilateral agencies, the corporate sector, concerned individuals and children.
It aims to reach out to the most marginalized children and provide interventions in shelter, medical, repatriation, rescue, death related, sponsorships, emotional support and guidance.
