In the third reported factional killing in the state this month, involving the GPRN/NSCN and NSCN (K), two GPRN/NSCN cadres were killed in Longkhim town Wednesday after an altercation between cadres of GPRN/NSCN and those formerly with GPRN/NSCN who defected to NSCN (K).

The deceased were identified as ‘lt’ Lemthong Tsaba and ‘raza peyu’ Chumkyuse of the Sangtam community from Chungtor village.

According to secretary MIP of NSCN (K), the incident happened after the arrival of over 25 GPRN/NSCN cadres in Longkhim town from Tuensang Tuesday in a jeep and a mini-truck. Half the number of GPRN/NSCN cadres remained while the rest withdrew from the area, he said.

The NSCN(K) secretary further claimed that some of the GPRN/NSCN cadres who remained and  in “an inebriated state” challenged their former comrades who joined NSCN (K). The GPRN/NSCN section allegedly claimed they were a “mobilisation team” despatched to kill the defectors “as per government order.”

The altercation continued but was defused after intervention by the students and public of Longkhim.
The NSCN (K) MIP secretary alleged that both Lemthong and Chumkyuse along with some “public in a private car” chased the NSCN (K) cadres who were camping on the outskirts of Longkhim town.

He claimed that the rivals attempted to toss “Thailand-made hand grenade”   but were overpowered by NSCN (K) who seized a pistol and a hand grenade with its pin taken off. He said the   two GRPN/NSCN compelled the NSCN (K) to kill them.

The NSCN (K) MIP secretary also claimed that the GPRN/NSCN did not show up for a joint meeting with NSCN(I-M), NSCN(K) and FGN convened by the United Sangtam Likhum Bumji (USLB).

He said had the GPRN/NSCN attended the meeting, the differences could have been sorted out. He also maintained that the NSCN (K) was trying to maintain a peaceful atmosphere in view of the festive season but that it was provoked by the rival cadres.

Meanwhile, when contacted GPRN/NSCN confirmed the killing of its two cadres. The MIP secretary also wished Nagas a Merry Christmas.
