Four held on multiple counts in Dimapur

Dimapur police have arrested four persons on multiple counts of extortion, theft and shooting and selling endangered bird here on Saturday in three separate incidents.

Two persons were arrested by Special Operation Team (SOT), Dimapur Saturday afternoon at around 2 p.m. on charges of extortion at New Market, Dimapur.

According to police, two accused identified as Tokiho Chishi (26), son of Zhekiye of Tokishe village, Niuland, and Aloto Yeptho (20), son of Shenito of Tokishe village also under Niuland, were caught while they were demanding money in the name of GPRN/NSCN.

Cash amounting to Rs.6860 was also recovered from their possession. A case has been registered with East Police Station in this connection.

In another separate incident, one person identified as Abdul Qadir (25), son of Abdul Rahim of Dilbara, Karimkanj, Assam, was arrested by SOT personnel after he stole a cellphone from a woman shopper at Shangrila market, Dimapur.

Meanwhile, Medziphema police arrested one person on charges of selling an endangered bird at Piphema town, which he had shot.

According to police, the person identified as Jesipeki (27), son of Zhavilie, a resident of Piphema, was arrested based on a complaint lodged with Medzhiphema police by forest department. A case has been registered in this connection.
