A day after six activists belonging to NSCN (K) and GPRN/NSCN were killed in Kiphire and Phek districts, another NSCN (K) cadre was killed by unidentified gunmen at his residence Alahuto Colony, Zunheboto at around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Police sources said the victim was reportedly in the kitchen with his wife and his minor child when the incident occurred. The wife of the victim identified as Mughatoli also sustained a bullet injury. She was rushed to the hospital for the medical assistance and was stated to be out of danger. After carrying out the shooting the unidentified gunmen fled the scene, police sources said.

The deceased bore two bullets marks, one at the back and the other in front. The bullet which hit him on the front pierced his left chest puncturing the heart and the other bullet which hit him from behind pierced his abdomen leaving him dead on the spot. Both the bullet exited the wounds, added the sources.

Earlier, police officer UBSI B.S Zhimo, who was on the spot investigating the scene, said they recovered four empty cases of 9mm calibre. The personnel of the 21 AR, OC PS Zunheboto and staff and DBs also visited the spot.

Meanwhile, NSCN (K) deputy secretary Inovi Z Ayemi, speaking on the phone, alleged the incident was purely handiwork of GPRN/NSCN stationed under Zunheboto town command. He said NSCN (K) was abiding by the norms of Sumi Hoho thus maintaining normalcy in civilian populated area(s) but Monday’s incident reflected the insincerity of  GPRN/NSCN, he said. Urging Sumi Hoho to rectify their “weaker side”, NSCN (K) deputy secretary maintained that its salience should not be taken for granted or as a sign of weakness.
