Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) headed by its mission director Motsuthung Lotha along with 14 officers, both from the State Mission Management Unit (SMMU) and directorate of rural development, Nagaland undertook a two-day exposure trip to Society for Eradication of Rural Poverty (SERP), a Government of Andhra Pradesh undertaking.

The purpose of the visit was to learn about processes which led to one of the most successful Women Self Help Group (SHG) promotion program in the country.

B. Rajsekhar Reddy IAS, Chief Executive Officer, SERP, along with his team of thematic experts gave an overview of the SHG movement in Andhra Pradesh right from its inception, to its current ongoing programs and their future plans of action.

A productive interactive session was also facilitated by serp team to sensitize the visiting team from Nagaland on the proposed field visit in rural areas as planned for 2 days.

The NSRLM team on the first day proceeded to Gopularam Village in Medak District, AP and interacted with the poorest of the poor (PoP) women SHG members.

This was followed by a meeting with the village organization (VO), a registered society formed by 18 SHGs who came together for a common cause.

On the second day, the team visited the block and district level SHG federations to understand their organizational structures, functioning, and other programs undertaken by them.

It was encouraging to see empowered women coming out of their homes to form into SHGs, engaging in livelihood enterprises and earning additional source of income for the family.

The objective of the visit was to enable the team to get hands-on experience of successful SHG program and possible application of best practices in our home state.

The program ended with a debriefing session at SERP office, Hyderabad where Visasolie Lhoungu CEO (NSRLM) Nagaland thanked the AP government for organizing the exposure program, which has enhanced the capacity of the team from the state. He assured that the lessons learned would help NRLM program in Nagaland.
