Calling for working out a timeframe to resolve all boundary disputes by bringing in a practical methodology, Nagaland GB Federation (NGBF) sought for integration of Naga areas through an effective constitutional mechanism.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at an annual general meeting (AGM) of the federation held at Hotel Saramati here on Wednesday.
NGFB maintained that a time frame should be worked out to resolve all boundary disputes by bringing in a practical methodology. It resolved to set in motion for integration of Naga areas, without disturbing the political will of other states, through an effective constitutional scheme.
NGBF also sought early resolution to the decades-old Naga political issue through necessary constitutional amendments without diluting any special provisions currently made available to Nagaland, while at the same time maintaining the integrity and identity of the Nagas by paving a way to live with honour and dignity.
Expressing appreciation to Government of India (GoI) for taking the peace talks seriously, NGBF felt that the ongoing negotiations with NPGs were fully in line with the political aspirations of the Nagas and should be continued.
The federation also urged Naga political groups and GoI to expedite the negotiations to arrive at a logical conclusion as soon as possible. The house further emphasised on devolving complete legislative power to Nagaland under the final peace settlement to enable it to enact laws as per Naga customary procedures and usages. And laws enacted by Nagaland should stand and be respected and honoured by GoI, the federation further demanded.
According a press release issued by media cell of NGBF, the AGM deliberated on “The perspective on Indo-Naga solution and the status/position of the Nagas” with its president Shahleem Konyak presiding over the meeting as chairman.
Earlier, the meeting began with an invocation prayer by Mokokchung GB Association president Imolemba Jamir.
In his presidential address, Konyak highlighted the purpose of the meet and averred that in the backdrop of the ongoing peace process that was nearing conclusion, it was imperative to ascertain the status of Nagas that had endorsed Naga political groups. He stressed the necessity to discuss the issue and opened the deliberations.
