An Open Letter to Our Naga BJP oliticians
A. Lanu:    8 Feb. 2018 1:04 AM IST

To the concerned politicians,
We live in a democratic and secular country, and I respect that. This letter is not a case for the merits of one religion over another. It is, rather, an enquiry into and a concern about your personal integrity as individuals who are asking us to elect you as our leaders.
1) Jesus said, “I am the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE” (John 14:6). If you are a Christian, you believe and live by this.
2) BJP’s ‘Hindutva: The Great Nationalist Ideology’ states - “the guiding principles of Bharat will come from two of the great teachings of the Vedas, the ancient Hindu and Indian scriptures, which so boldly proclaimed -
TRUTH IS ONE, SAGES CALL IT BY MANY NAMES - and - THE WHOLE UNIVERSE IS ONE FAMILY.” (www.bjp.org).
3) You have joined a political party that believes in a ‘truth’ that is not the TRUTH of the Bible. This is not a problem if you are not a Christian. However, if you call yourself a Christian, speaking about God and Jesus with your tongues like you’re a Christian, and yet have consciously chosen to join the BJP, you have forsaken your God.
4) You may say that you made the decision to join BJP for the greater good of the Naga people, because the party will help bring development; that this Hindutva thing is an insignificant part of the BJP ideology and that it does not get in the way of your faith as a Christian. You would be wrong. Like Jesus in the desert after His baptism, your faith has been tested, but unlike Him, you have failed. You may not care what this betrayal of yours does for you in this life here on earth, because you will most likely enjoy wealth and luxury and even praise the Lord Jesus for those “blessings”, but judgement will come to you when you have to face the Lord and answer to Him face to face. That is between you and your God. Are you willing to risk it? And no, seeking forgiveness and a prayer from a pastor on your deathbed is not going to help you when the time comes.
5) Conversely, if you say that you have joined BJP without accepting their ideology and agenda, then you have simply exposed yourselves for the power hungry and greedy individuals that you are, because it becomes obvious what you joined them for - their resources.
6) Naga church leaders and the general Christian Naga population need to be calling you out on your blatant hypocrisy and deception. They lament about it in the safety of private conversations, but what good is that going to do for us as a people. Why are we sitting around like apathetic fools simply “praying” for change? Isn’t it said that God answers the prayers of those who work hard to make things happen? We can’t pray for good leaders and clean elections without actively making sure that we elect the good and honorable people instead of the lying, cheating, thieving scum. So here I am, speaking out on behalf of so many of us.
Yet, I have to wonder if this letter will even have any effect. Will it make you think about/question your actions and the decisions you have made? Do you care about integrity and your soul or about the crooked money you will make and store up on earth? (Which, as I’m sure you know, you can’t take to heaven. If you care about heaven, i.e.). Hope is not lost though. We are not on our deathbeds yet. Atonement and redemption are still available to us all.
