Counterfeit Beatles.
Come July, the Counterfeit Beatles, a popular UK-based Beatles tribute band, is all set to tour India’s northeast and rev up the golden memories of the sixties. The three-member band Counterfeit Beatles — Gordon Elsmore, Reuven Gershon and Martin Savill — will arrive at Guwahati on July 2 and immediately head for Shillong, where they will kick off their tour with a live performance on July 3. The band’s northeast itinerary includes Guwahati and Dimapur. For the popular UK band, this visit will be the second Indian tour in less than six months. The maiden India tour, with successful performance in Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin and Goa, took place in February this year. This time, the group’s NE tour is being jointly managed by Kingsberg and NEEMA, a Guwahati-based event management group. “The maiden tour of India was a successful one,” the news portal of Counterfeit Beatles was quoted as saying. The Counterfeit Beatles, with international acts in Japan and Greece among others, was formed in 1995. Having staged their shows at leading venues in the UK and other countries, the group has made its way as one of the top Beatles tribute bands. In the band the newest member Elsmore, a well known drummer, vocalist and session musician, features as Ringo Starr, while Gershon as John Lennon and Savill as George Harrison. Interestingly, Gershon is die-hard Beatles fan after he found an album at his mother’s house when he was nine. As an actor he appeared in ''Come Together'' as John Lennon on London''s fringe in 1995 and his performance was acclaimed by all the National paper''s like the Times and The Telegraph. Critics have found Savill, a brilliant guitarist and the quietest member of the band, a character that perfectly suits the role of Harrison.
