Meeting deliberates on road safety

Parliamentary secretary for transport and communication, mechanical. P. Dako Phom with transport commissioner, T. Meren Paul attended the special National Road Safety Council meeting held on August 6 at New Delhi. The meet was called by union minister for shipping, road transport and highways T.R. Baalu
The meeting deliberated on the road safety aspect, overloading of vehicle, setting of speed limit, fitment of speed Governor, issue of smart card driving license and establishment of National and state register of driving license and registration of vehicle.
In his speech, the parliamentary secretary pointed out the need to have mobile or stationary weighbridge in the National Highway - 39 to control overloading and to prevent damage caused to the road. He asked the center to grant at least four weighbridges.
He also implored upon the ministry to conduct proper road test of the speed Governor whether the same calibration set for plain sector could be workable in the high terrain road in the hill sector before it was made mandatory in the country.
Phom also appraised council the status of issue of driving license and registration certificate in smart card under the National software Sarthi and Vahan with SCOSTA base smartcard in the state. He requested the ministry to provide connectivity of all the RTOIDTO office with transport commissioner office to pool a central databank to maintain the state Register of Motor vehicle and driving license and a server machine in each RTOIDTO.
