Mokokchung police manning Tsutapela check post bordering Assam recently arrested four persons while they were attempting to cross into Mokokchung with a huge consignment of fake and sub-standard goods to be sold to unsuspecting Naga public.
Police arrested the four accused identified as Md. Imran, Md. Mohamad, Md. Shajid and Raju Sharma and seized goods including fake cameras and sub-standard home appliances like electric cooker and mixer-grinder.
Earlier too, there were reports of public being duped by frauds impersonating as trainees or sales executives of some companies.
Some frauds also posed as security personnel and tricked public into buying sub-standard goods by passing them off as canteen goods.
It could not be ascertained whether the four arrested had duped the public on earlier occasions.
SP Mokokchung Tuesday displayed the seized goods to the press and asked the public to be wary of such frauds. The SP also advised people not to go ‘tantriks’ for consultations or buy ‘tapiz’ as most of the tantriks were.
