A mammoth crowd of around 7,000 people attended the I-Day celebration in Dimapur held at DDSC Stadium, which was graced by minister for Urban Development and Higher Education Dr. Shurhozelie as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering after hoisting the tri colour, Shurhozelie said the State government had declared 2008-09 as the “Year of capacity building” and earmarked Rs. 20 crore during the current year for this purpose.
The minister said the declaration was with a view to equip the State’s manpower with the relevant knowledge and right skills, since the “present mainstream education offered by schools and colleges does not adequately equip the students with the right skills to meet the ever changing job requirements of the computer age in a dynamic world.”
Highlights of the celebration included dog show by 3 Corps, Rangapahar, demonstration of search and rescue operation (incharge CTI Home Guards, Toluvi), Band display by 24 Assam Rifles, dance by JNV School Nihokhu, demonstration of hand drills by NCC Air Wing Christina Memorial School, and cultural dances by Ao, Angami, Sumi, Yichunger and Sangtam troupes.
Later, accompanied by DC Dimapur Maong Aier and SP Dimapur Liremo Lotha, Shurhozelie also inaugurated the exhibition stalls set up by Agri department, VDBs, SHG under DRDA, Industries department, DIMUL and indigenous food stall by NGOs.
