ARWSP aid for State

Nagaland State has been allocated Rs. 42 .53 crores under Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) during 2008-09 by the  Department of Drinking Water Supply, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
And out of the Rs. 42 .53 crores, Rs. 21. 26 crores have been released till June 30, 2008, according to a PIB release.
A total of Rs.6891. 71 crores was earmarked for ARWSP during 2008-09 by the Department of Drinking Water Supply, Ministry of Rural Development, the release informed.
The break-up figures of the rest of the north east states are Assam –Rs.246.44 crores, Arunachal Pradesh – Rs. 146. 12 crores, Meghalaya –Rs. 57.79 crores, Tripura –Rs.51.25 crores, Manipur - Rs. 50.16 crores, Mizoram Rs. 41.44 crores, and Sikkim Rs.17.45 crores, the release disclosed.
The release said that considering the magnitude of the problem, the Government of India supplements the efforts of the State Governments by providing financial assistance under Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) to address the problems of poor availability, water quality and sustainability of drinking water sources and systems.   Rural drinking water supply is a State subject and has been included in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution among the subjects that may be entrusted to Panchayats by the State
