Chief minister Neiphiu Rio has said the creation of the education grid was a significant step forward for the State of Nagaland as the grid could provide quality education to not only every district and village in the State but also to any individual, thereby empowering the people of Nagaland to become global citizens.
Rio who was the guest of honour at the inauguration of the Nagaland University - IIITM-Kerala Education Grid Link at Travancore Hall, Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram, in his address said through the education grid, virtual classrooms could be created where knowledge and skills could be provided, irrespective of the geographical barriers and locations. “Our students in Nagaland will now be able to listen to the best teachers, and interact with them, thereby helping to upgrade the knowledge base of the teachers and the youth,” Rio said. The chief minister hoped that the initiative, when expanded, would spread to all forms of education. He also said the idea of creation of Centre of Advanced Informatics and Society (CAIS) would help in providing real time solution to unsolved problems through leveraging the capacity of the best talents in the country for development of the State.
Meanwhile, the Governments of Nagaland and Kerala also signed an MoU to work together in the areas of education, healthcare, agriculture and other livelihood generation.
