Dako Phom launches software

Parliamentary Secretary for Transport & Communication Department and Mechanical Engineering (PWD), P. Dako Phom today launched the VAHAN & SARATHI software, SCOSTA (Smart Card Operating System for Transport Application) at the office of the Regional Transport Officer, Kohima.
Speaking on the occasion the Parliamentary Secretary congratulated the Transport Department for successfully launching the programme. He said that NIC New Delhi and NIC Kohima have immensely contributed to the customisation and in successfully implementing the software.
Stating that the Department has taken several painful years to develop the software, the Parliamentary Secretary said that it would be of great benefit to the people.
Commissioner & Secretary, Transport & Communication, Thangi Mannen in her speech said Nagaland is privileged to be one of the few states to join the mainstream through computerisation and the activities going on have been encouraging. She said that with rapid and technological advancement, computerisation and networking have become an important part of one's life and we should all take advantage of the facility available.
At the government level, she said that we should be competent enough to be computer savvy and face challenges. E-governance has become an important part of our lives and she hoped to see more development in the department.
Joint Transport Commissioner and KMS (Key Management System) Nodal Officer, H. Achumi in his brief introduction of KMS, VAHAN & SARATHI, said that the VAHAN software is for registration while SARATHI is for issue of driving licenses.
The whole process is structured in a way so that it is not duplicated and it is in line with the Central Government's decision to have common software for both driving license as well as for registration.
Principal System Analyst NIC, I. Lanu Aier, while giving a short technical brief said that VAHAN & SARATHI runs a single data base on client-server technology where the most important thing is about maintaining the data base.
The programme was chaired by Transport Commissioner, T. Meren Paul.
