Condemnations over killing of GB

Joint Forum of GBs& DBs Nagaland, GBs& DBs Joint Forum Dimapur, GBs Union Dimapur, Zeme Union Dimapur, BJP Nagaland and other have in separate press statements, condemned the killing of late PP Zeliang, GB. GBs& DBs Nagaland Joint Forum convenor A Taku Longkumer and secretary Lungrahei Herie said targeting elderly and responsible citizens was highly uncalled for, especially since GBs were considered as “father to all communities.” The Forum also said that it would find out the reason behind the killing and appealed to the authority to book the culprits at the earliest. Expressing serious concern over targeting of GBs in recent times, convenor, GBs& DBs Joint Forum, Pikuto Shohe said “Gaonburas are respected and honoured by the Naga societies from time immemorial. Therefore doers of such crimes should not consider themselves as Naga.” Expressing shock over the killing, chairman, GBs Union Dimapur, I Pangjung Tsudir said late PP Zeliang was an “upright man, honest, sociable and take his work seriously.” Vice president and spokesman, BJP Nagaland, TL Merry on behalf of the State BJP, condemned the cowardly killing of an innocent and simple GB who was also an active member of the BJP. The party demanded immediate enquiry, preferably by CBI, into the killing of the GB. Zeme Union Dimapur chairman Nandi Lungalang questioned the group responsible whether Zeliang “really deserved capital punishment for his act (whatever it may be).” The union also urged different factions, groups and the district administration to detect the culprits and take book them as per law of the land. All Zeliangrong Students’ Union Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, (AZSU-AMN) has also condemned the continued killings of civilians and public leaders by various factions and gunmen “without any rhyme or reason.”
