PWD Mechanical Division under the establishment of Executive Engineer, Mokokchung, has come under scanner over alleged diversion of arrears meant for the work-charged employees. It was alleged that the second ADA arrears from June 1, 1998 to April 30, 2007, amounting to Rs. 90, 52,000 (ninety lakh fifty two thousand) had been misappropriated by some officers of the department. Executive convener and Marchizung Action Committee convener of Mokokchung Mechanical Field Workers Association, Sungjemkaba, told this correspondent that arrears meant for work charge employees were siphoned off and that the beneficiaries were not given their due share. The Association alleged that serious anomalies relating to arrears scam, which had been going on for years, were detected only when the arrears list was released to Association in December 2007. Some of the anomalies in the arrear list, according to the association include bogus names, some names figuring twice or thrice while names of some genuine beneficiaries were dropped out. Pointing out that there was a further deduction of 12% in the second ADA arrears, the association said some members of the association and officers of the department were behind the “improper” deduction. It was also alleged that the department had turned a deaf ear to the pleas of the association members to address their grievances. With no options left but equipped with evidences, the association is now planning move to the court for redressal of their grievances and has sought the co-operation and support from all in their fight for justice.
