Following Tuesday’s firing incident between rival NSCN factions here at Niu colony, a combined force of police, IRB and Sikh Regiment, comprising of more than one thousand personnel Wednesday carried out a flush-out operation in Burma Camp area including Veterinary colony, Niu colony, North Block A&B and Mao colony, early morning on Wednesday. The armed cadres reportedly moved out of the area by afternoon. When contacted in the evening, SP Dimapur Liremo Lotha told Nagaland Post that a police party which had gone to the area around 4 p.m, confirmed that the activists had vacated Niu colony. “The GBs and elders of the colony also told police that cadres have left. We should go by their words,” the SP said. Earlier in the morning while the operation was on, the NSCN (K) activists had some heated arguments with the police and district administration with regard to the operation. While SP Dimapur made it clear that the activists should not endanger lives of public by staying in the colony but move to their designated camps, the NSCN (K) on the other hand accused police of giving protection to the rival group on Tuesday. The NSCN (K) also said they were ready to vacate the colony, but cautioned that if the rival group came after they left, then the whole responsible would be borne by the colony GB and council members. DMC chairperson Khekaho Assumi who was also present, tried his best to pacify the NSCN (K) members and also urged to them to understand the police’s standpoint. Reprimanding the GB and council members for not keeping their words to evict the activists earlier, the SP also reminded the GB and elders that they had to ensure that there was no presence of any faction by 4 p.m.
