Bhatt leads delegation to Jamir

An eight-member delegation representing various religious organizations led by noted filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt Thursday met Maharashtra Governor Dr. SC Jamir at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai, under the banner of All India Christian Council (AICC). PRO, Raj Bhavan, Mumbai, Umesh Kashikar in a press release said the delegation strongly condemned the attacks on Christians in the State of Orissa and requested to the Governor to convey their sentiments to the Government of India. The delegation requested that the Government of India should step in to save the lives and property of Christians. The delegation also demanded that armed forces and relief materials be rushed to the victims of the communal violence in Orissa. The Governor assured the delegation that he would immediately convey the sentiments of the members to the President of India, the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. Dr Abraham Mathai, general secretary, All India Christian Council, Fr Anthony Charanghat representing the Archbishop of Bombay Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Maulana Saeed Noori, Raza Academy and Sardar Rajinder Singh, Sikh Association of Mumbai, were part of the delegation.
