Nagaland GBs Federation (NGBF) has called for 12 hour state wide bandh on September 10 to protest the killing of three of its member GBs as well as the innocent civilians slain in the factional feud.
The decision was arrived at during the Federation's executive meeting held on August 27 in the conference hall of the commissioner's office. The bandh will be effected from 6 am till 6 pm on the said day.
Besides the bandh, the federation as per its six point resolution, decided to submit a list of GBs who have expired or resigned from the membership to the Commissioner through the respective Deputy Comissioners for implementation of corpus funds as per the notification of the government, submit a memorandum to the government banning political appointment of GBs stressing on the need to uphold the procedures of the Village Council Act to strengthen customary law, tradition and practices.
It has also informed all its members non payment of membership fees before the next general meeting slated for January 2009 in Dimapur would result in denial of GBs corpus fund and appealed to the commissioner to rectify and enact amendments to facilitate the powers and functions of GBs in Village council Act, which has been mentioned as ex-officio.
The commissioner, in a message encouraged the members on the vital role GBs play towards maintaining peace as custodians of the customary law, traditional and practices. It was delivered to the federation by DC headquarter Anenla while EAC headquarter Seitho appraised the house in detail on the government's notification regarding the GBs corpus fund, a press release informed.
