More condemn gang-rape

More condemnations have poured in from various civil societies, hohos and students’ organizations over the brutal gang-rape of a pregnant woman by four youths near Showuba village, Dimapur, on Wednesday night. KNSK: Terming the gang-rape as “inhuman act”, Konyak Nyupuh Shekho Khong Dimapur unit said “a crime of this proportion warrants stringent punishment to serve as deterrence.” KGSTH: Kuhuboto Ghakhu Sumi Totimi Hoho resolved and demanded that the four youths be convicted for at least 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. “They have not only brought bad name to themselves and their families but also to whole of the villages and community. Therefore, the concerned village authorities should immediately expel them for their respective villages,” the hoho said.KGSTH further called upon all individuals and organizations involved in seeking justice not to succumb to pressure but to be strong till justice was delivered. WYH & WYGBU: Western Yimchungru Hoho and Western Yimchungru GBs Union said the uncivilized and inhuman act devoid of any human norm and standard hould not be given any palce in Naga society. WYH and WYGBU WYH warned that the culprits should not be bailed out under any circumstances till the legal authority took its own course of action to “give them capital punishment.” SKK: Condemning the rape incident as well as killing of one Hokheli by her husband Kiyelho, All Sumi Students’ Union said the acts committed by the accused were “sacrilegious and savagery.” The union demanded highest degree of punishment in order to deter occurrences of such acts in future. LHD: Lotha Hoho Dimapur appealed the authority to award stringent punishment to the guilty. The hoho at the same time appreciated police for their time action in apprehending the culprits. ENSUD: Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union Dimapur said the merciless act of desecrating the sanctity of a mother had brought insult of the highest degree to Naga society. The union appealed the authority to award befitting punishment to the culprits as per Section 376 A IPC, without delay. ESSU: Eastern Sumi Students’ Union said the crime committed on an innocent pregnant woman had brought shame to Naga society, and urged the law enforcing agency to punish the culprits as per law. The Aliberu Arikh Ako, Old Showuba village, Old Showuba Students’ Union, Yimchungrü Student’s Union (YAA) and Medical Colony Youth Club (MCYC) have also condemned the incident.
