Chief minister Neiphiu Rio has said Nagaland was not getting sufficient funds for maintenance of roads and demanded hundred percent funding from the Centre at one go for maintenance of roads in the State. Addressing a press conference here at his official residence on Monday, the chief minister said the present phase-wise release of funds for roads would not serve the purpose. Admitting to the poor road condition in the State, Rio said fund constraint, soil condition and heavy monsoon were some major factors coming in the way of good and pliable roads. Lashing out at the Border Roads Organization (BRO) for alleged poor workmanship, Rio said the roads maintained by BRO were “worst” compared to the State roads. The chief minister also said the State PWD was to be blamed for poor maintenance of State roads. The chief minister further disclosed that he had written another reminder to director general BRO for improvement of national highways in Nagaland. On the progress of investigation into the road scam, Rio said the Vigilance Commission was yet to submit the charge sheet to the government. Stating that the government was not on a “witch hunt” with regard to the investigation, he said the law should take its course of action.
