National Council of Churches in India (NCCI) has condemned the desecration of prayer halls in coastal districts of Mangalore, Udupi and Chikmagalur districts of Karnataka. At least nine places of worship were attacked by suspected Bajrang Dal activists yesterday, even as two pastors and six others were injured in simultaneous attacks. “We condemn yesterday’s attacks on places of worship,” NCCI Vice President Rev PBM Basaiawmoit said. Urging the Centre to intervene and defuse the prevailing tension in the three affected districts, NCCI said appropriate steps to bring back normalcy and initiate confidence building measures. Meanwhile, the Catholic Association Khasi and Jaintia in Meghalaya also condemned the desecration of churches and prayer halls at Karnataka.
