DCC Mkg opposes women reservation

District Congress Committee Mokokchung has totally opposed the recent statements made by NPCC vice president Nillo Rengma and Congress legislator SI Jamir, supporting the 33% reservation for women in municipal councils. DCC Mokokchung president I. Nungkum Jamir and general secretary I Tia Lkr in a press release said the proposed reservation was against the special provisions of Indian Constitution for Nagas and contradictory to Article 371(A), which protected where Naga customary law and practices. DCC also informed that it supported the decision of 16 wards of Mokokchung town along with Ungma, Mokokchung, Khensa and Chuchuyimpang villages to boycott the ensuing Mokokchung Municipal Council election, till the Nagaland Municipal Act relating to reservation of women was reviewed or amend by the Government of Nagaland.
