Taking the barrage of criticisms in its stride following the demolition drive in Dimapur town, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) pressed on with its ‘Operation demolition’ in Gorapatti, New Field check gate and Murgipatti on Saturday. Later, talking to mediapersons at DMC office, DMC members involved in the demolition clarified that any demolition undertaken was based on the “collective decision” of the members. On stiff opposition from some quarters, DMC chairperson Khekaho Assumi reiterated that the demolition drive was undertaken solely for the welfare and interest of all citizens of Dimapur and not for any personal or other interests. “For all our efforts, we are still getting brick bats and criticisms. However, we are taking all these in our stride without deviating from our objective to make the city more spacious, cleaner and beautiful,” Khekaho said. He also felt that affected land and building owners not to take matters on a personal level since the demolition was based on “collective decision.” DMC in-charge planning Nungsang Jamir also clarified that there was no question of targeting particular buildings for demolition. “Demolition is done based on collective decision of DMC members concerned, not a pick and choose system,” he said.
