The suspense over M K Kaushik’s fate is finally over after the Olympian reported to the Sports Authority of India here on Monday and is set to resume his coaching duties with women’s hockey team at a camp in Bangalore on Wednesday. Kaushik, who joined the SAI on deputation from the Haryana government, is slated to meet the Director-General, SAI on Tuesday before leaving for Bangalore. Kaushik was last week named as the men’s team coach by IOA ad-hoc committee till the 2010 Asian Games but the appointment did not go well with Indian Women’s Hockey Federation as he was contracted with them till 2012 London Olympics. M P Ganesh, Technical Director of the IWHF, who was instrumental in sorting out the matter, said Kaushik will resume his duties with the women’s team and will join the 40-day preparatory camp for 2010 Commonwealth Games. “Kaushik has been relieved by the Haryana government and he has joined SAI today. Tomorrow he will be meeting all the officials including Director General and day after he will join women’s hockey team for the national camp,” Ganesh told reporters from Bangalore. “All the issues regarding Kaushik’s appointment have been sorted out,” he added. Ganesh, a former captain, also informed that once Kaushik resumes his charge a detailed programme for the women’s team will also be chalked out as India have been invited for a bilateral series as well as other international tournaments by a number of countries. Kaushik’s appointment as the men’s team coach flared up into a big controversy with the IWHF accusing the ad-hoc committee’s move as illegal. The matter was later sorted out in the IWHF Annual General Meeting last Saturday.
