State observe world tourism day

Along with rest of the world, department of the Tourism observed 'world tourism day' Saturday at office premises. As part of the World tourism day, the department organized an essay competition on the theme - 'Tourism responding to the challenge of climate change' for school students and a photography competition. Highlighting the significance of the theme, KT Thomas, deputy director, Tourism stressed on the need to protect the environment and encouraged the people to go for eco-tourism, plantation of more cash crops, to take up horticulture and medical plants, agro forestry etc. He also called upon the students opt for tree plantations and spread awareness in order to protect environment from climatic changes. First position in the essay competition, was bagged by Sony Kumari (Mt Sinai School), second position Noune (Mt . Sinai School) and third position Rovino Lhoushe (Dainty Buds). They received Rs.2000, Rs. 1500 and Rs. 1000 respectively, while the participants were awarded Rs.500 each. Photography competition result were "deferred due to technical reason" Meanwhile, Khonoma Tourism Development Board observed World Tourism Day at Khonoma village, with the office inauguration of Eco-tourism management committee by K.K. Sema, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary, Tourism & Art and Culture as the chief guest. Nagaland Tourism Association was also observed in Mon with CL John, MLA as the chief guest. Meanwhile the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) would be conducting a photo competition of Tourism responding to the challenge of climate change. The photographs should showcase climate solutions in tourism. The participants must register and submit photographs at www.unwto.org/wtd/. Competition is open to people of all ages form all around the world. Last date of registration would be on November 30 .Winner will be notified before December 30 and list of winners would be published in UNWTO.Org. World tourism day is observed every year on September 27 since 1980 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and is observed across the globe.
