Naga Council condemn atrocities

Naga Council Dimapur has condemned the present atrocities and persecution perpetrated to the minority Christians in Kandhamal, Orissa where innocent precious lives were killed. Condemning the incident, NCD President Savi Liegise and Joint secretary, Thaban Rongmei, stated that it was not the first Christians were being attacked, targeted and churches being ransacked by Hindu extremist groups like VHP and Bajrang Dal in different parts of the country especially in the state of Orissa, violating Human Rights and the right to freedom of religion under fundamental right envisage upon in the Constitution of India. On the back drops of prevailing grievous situation, the Naga Council Dimapur appealed to all right thinking people to condemn the inhuman acts of the religious fanatic in the strongest possible term to avoid creation of mistrust and misgiving among different communities and to uphold the country's secularism in letter and spirit. NCD also appealed to Hindu brothers of the state to apprise their counterparts in Orissa to be more tolerant with other religious communities in Orissa as they had been living harmoniously in the Christian state of Nagaland, and further requested Tribal Hohos, Councilors and concern citizens to jointly participate in the chain of prayer and rally programme at City Tower set by Joint Christian Forum to be held on September 7
