4 carjackers arrested

State Police Tuesday arrested four members of a vehicle-lifting gang while they were traveling in a Bolero stolen from Kohima, at a place near Tadubi, under Senapati district, Manipur. Police said the four accused had stolen the Bolero (NL-10-5533) belonging to EE, PWD (R&B) Zunheboto division, from the latter’s residence at Para Medical colony, Kohima, late Monday night and were proceeding towards Manipur in the wee hours of Tuesday. As police manning Khuzama check gate were alerted, the car lifters took a detour through TB Hospital road bypassing the check gate. However, highway patrol party along with Khuzama PS personnel gave chase to the vehicle and also resorted to blank firing during the chase. Police finally caught up with the gang members near Tadubi, some 8 kms away from Khuzama. SP Kohima in a press release said the four arrested were identified as Ramesh Kalti (22), son of Arjun of Lingrijan village, Assam; Bimal Kumar (17), son of Ram Bahadur Sharma of Bakoni village, Bihar; Ranjit Swami (27), son of Kubu and Rajendra Swami (28), son of Kube, both from Teliang village, Chennai. Police also said both Rajen and Rajendra were working as auto mechanics in Dimapur. Police also recovered two pairs of fake number plates (NL-01C- 7061 and NL-OC 5342) from the accused. All four accused are presently lodged at South Police station and further investigation was on. Meanwhile, EE Zunheboto has expressed gratitude to OC Khuzama police check gate and his team for timely recovery of his vehicle.
