Sangtams celebrate Amongmong

Sangtam Amongmong festival was Wednesday celebrated with pomp and gaiety at Purana Bazar, Dimapur. A time to reconcile among families, friends and with God "is the basic means of celebrating the Amongmong festival", host of the festival Langnuru Er S.T Sangtam said while exhorting the gathering at the Amongmong fest. Narating the story of 'Amongmong' Langnuru S.T Sangtam said the festival in the olden days stretched on to six days of worshipping, performing rites, merrymaking, eating and drinking. Litsaba God who was believed to be the creator of universe was worshipped by the Sangtam tribe. Folk song presentation by Eralibi colony elders' and frolicsome activities by children and youths enlightened the gathering at the festival of merrymaking and reconciliation. Attended by traditional attired young and old people after the cultural function indulged in Amongmong feast traditionally prepared for the occasion. The programme was chaired by Choise Sangtam, invocation was lead by Dr. Meren Sangtam, deacon (SBCPBD) and welcome address was proposed by Hotongse Sangtam.
