DC Mokokchung Bendangkokba has annulled the proposed Thursday’s bandh called by the All Ward Union Mokokchung protesting 33 percent reservation of seats for women in civic bodies. DC said the bandh call was against the decision of the state government and issued an order directing all head of offices/schools, Head GB/ADC and administrator, Mokokchung Municipal Council, to abstain from the bandh and function normally. He also said shop owners also would be made to open their shops. It was learnt that a meeting between the landowners of the four villages falling under Mokokchung town jurisdiction and the DC today did not make any headway. The DC said adequate security arrangements have been taken up to thwart any untoward incident. When contacted, the president of All Ward Union, Watimongba Aier told this Correspondent over phone that total bandh would be observed. He however said security personnel, emergency medical services, magistrate on duty and the press would be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
