Regional seminar underway

With an objective to draw the attention of young scholars of philosophy and professionals from other fields to the values of philosophy and its usefulness, a two-day regional seminar on "A discourse on philosophical practice" got underway at Patkai Christian College (PCC), here on Thursday with additional director of higher education, Chubainla Jamir as chief guest. The seminar organized by department of philosophy, PCC and supported by UGC, North East Region Office (NERO), Guwahati has resource persons from various universities and college of the region. The resource persons including Prof. Girsish Sharma and Prof. Sibnath Sarma of department of philosophy, Guwahati university; Dr. Alexander CP, centre head ICFAI university, Dimapur; Dr.Khundongbam Gokulchandra of department of philosophy, Manipur university; Dr. KK Hazarika principal DCB girls college, Jorhat; Dr. Prof. Daisy Hazarika of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat and Rev. Judson Rungsung principal of PCC would deliver lectures on various topics based on philosophical roots. Addressing the seminar as chief guest, Chubainla Jamir thanked UGC, NERO for supporting the seminar and expressed hope that the participants would avail the chance and gain maximum out of it. Asserting that one needs to get updated with the subject matter and its extent, additional director said "we need to update ourselves, unless we update ourselves the materials that we use would be outdated." Chubainla Jamir, while referring the context of Naga society with regard to a range of seminars conducted throughout, said it has become monotonous and wished that the seminar would be a meaningful one. Delivering keynote address HOD philosophy of PCC, Mhao Tungoe pointed out that philosophical dialogue in theory and practice was not to undermine but to further an individual's originality and self-sufficiency. Tungoe while stating that one need to counteract strategies and divisions and cultivate mutual understanding through hard work of explorative dialogue, said it was a characteristic of true collegiality and friendship. He observed that introduction of philosophical material into the context of counseling and psychotherapy was an interesting and growing area of study and practice. Principal PCC, Rev. Judson Rungsung and Dr. RK Behera, reader department of philosophy, PCC also spoke at the seminar.
