Vipopal likely to head KMC

Former deputy chairperson of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) Vipopal Kintso and Khriehu Liezietsu, son of Urban Development minister Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu, have emerged as front runners for the posts of the KMC chairperson and the deputy chairperson respectively. Talking to Nagaland Post, Vipopal confirmed that eleven KMC members had submitted a letter to DC Kohima, endorsing Vipopal and Khriehu to head the council. He also said the eleven members had requested the DC to immediately convene a meeting to elect a new chairperson and deputy chairperson. It may be mentioned on Thursday, Menuovilie Kesiezie and Thejangulie Theunuo tendered their resignations from their respective posts of chairperson and deputy chairperson, a day ahead of the ‘trial of strength’ slated for Friday. Subsequent to this, DC Kohima had cancelled the meeting convened for the consideration of No Confidence Motion. The DC also informed that the resignations would take effect on the expiry of period of fifteen days from the date of receipt of the resignation letters. In the meantime, ADC (Administration), Kohima, and executive officer, KMC, would be looking after the day to day work of KMC office till election of a new chairperson and deputy chairperson.
