Tourism deptt to undertake more project

Tourism Parliamentary secretary Yitachu Thursday said the inflow of foreign and domestic tourist was expected to increase in the current year. In his written reply to H. Chuba Chang, Congress MLA, he said that during 2008 (January till August) at total of 15,219 domestic tourists and 548 foreign tourists visited Nagaland. He also said that tourism department has proposal to develop Dzukou valley -its trekking route, up-gradation of existing accommodation, improvement of public facilities and tourist facility in the tourist camp and a helipad were being planned. In his supplementary, H. Chuba Chang said that the tourism department should have proper plan and projects to promote tourism in the state, adding it should benefit the people and the department and also bring profit to local people. Leader of opposition Chingwang suggested that state government should take note of unnecessary harassment meted out to foreign tourist. While home minister Imkong L. Imchen said that it was the duty of the police as well as the security forces to check whether foreign tourists carried valid documents or not. He also added that checking of such document would be streamlined. He also urged all parties to work together and take up the matter in regard to Protected Area Permit (PAP) in the state .
