Governor of Maharashtra S. C. Jamir today welcomed the opening of the Argentina Consulate in Mumbai and said that it would give a major boost to strengthening bilateral relations between India and Argentina. Mentioning that India attaches great importance to Latin America, the Governor assured that he will extend full support to the Argentinean Consulate in improving business, trade and cultural relations with India. Jamir was interacting with the newly appointed Consul General of Argentina in Mumbai Fernando Luis Ras, when the latter called on him at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai this morning. The Consul General told the Governor that Argentina and India have shared very warm relations during the last 60 years. The decision of his country to open a Consulate in Mumbai shows Argentina’s desire to further strengthen ties with resurgent India. Mr Luis Ras mentioned that it was a great co-incidence that both Argentina and India elected their first women President last year. He informed the Governor that the President of Argentina Mrs Cristina Fernandez is likely to visit India early next year.
