Kohima T T tourney concludes

The two-day, Kohima Open Table Tennis Tournament 2008 concluded on Saturday evening here at the Kohima Indoor Stadium. The tournament organized by the Kohima District Table Tennis Association, witnessed winners of seven different categories who walked away with cash prizes and trophy. The awards were handed over by president of Nagaland Table Tennis Association, Atuo Mezhür Sekhose during the closing ceremony. Encouraging the players, Atuo Mezhür Sekhose called upon them to give a professional approach in their play, and not take it as a recreation. Citing Manipur as an example where sports have become an avenue of employment, the chief guest urged the sportspersons to take up sports to professional level by giving their hundred percent. He further assured of the association’s support towards dedicated players. Atuo also lauded the Kohima District Table Tennis Association for organizing the tournament, and expressed his hope that other districts would follow suit. The prize money for the winners were Rs. 5500 for the winner of Men’s Singles and Rs. 3000 for the runners up; Rs. 4500 for the winner of Men’s Doubles and Rs. 2500 for the runners up; Rs. 2000 for the Women’s Singles Champion and Rs. 1500 for the runners up; Rs. 1500 for the winner of Women’s Doubles and Rs.1000 for the runners up; Rs. 2500 for Junior Boy’s champion in singles category and Rs. 1500 for the runners up; Rs. 2100 for winner of Junior Boys Doubles and Rs. 1500 for the runners up; Rs. 1500 for the winner of Sub Junior Singles and Rs. 1000 for the runners up. The sponsors for the cash prizes included Pan Indian Network Infravest Pvt. Ltd, Star Sports, Vüprü Optics, Highway Traders Union, Auto Mart, Hotel Grandeur, Chingtsuong Restaurant, Khrievotso Khezhie, Seyiekuolie, Pele Khezhie, Zeneituo Pienyü, Dr. Atou Belho, Khriehu Liezietsu, Kevi Vizo, Muslim Union, Aren Liezietsu; while MLA Vikho-o, Speaker NLA, Kiyaneilie Peseyie and parliamentary secretary R. Khing donated towards the Kohima District Table Tennis Association. Other co-sponsors were Dr. Nicky Kire, Atuo Mezhü Sekhose, Kohima Printing Press, KV Syster, Big Bite restaurant, China Town restaurant, Flaming Wok restaurant, Central Café.
