PYA volley tourney ends DIMAPUR, OCT 11 (NPN): Open Volleyball Tournament which was organized by the Pochury Youth Association concluded on October 2 at Meluri town with the 33 Assam Rifles ‘B’ Coy Meluri emerging as the champion and the 5th NAP Meluri as the runners up. PYA president, S. Peter Trakha in a press release said that D. Akho leyri, district planning officer, Kiphire graced the opening ceremony while Major Ayappa Pemmaiah, post commander 33 A/R Meluri was the guest of honour in the closing function. PYA extended gratitude to Vitsutho, assistant director, Industries and Commerce for donating the trophies. The association also thanked the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Yitachu, parliamentary secretary, Tourism, Art and Culture, law and Justice, NSMDC, Tarachu ATP, Thuchu, Pochury region, Mazu Thupita, Siatho Pojar, Dove group Meluri, Inspector 5th NAP Meluri, Nyupuchu and T. Kamsang for their financial aid towards the PYA in conducting the tournament. BYSA and Kingdom Stewards win KOHIMA, OCT 11 (NPN): Botsa Youth and Sports Association (BYSA) and Kingdom Stewards became the 15th and 16th teams to move into pre-quarter-finals at the ongoing 9th NSF Martyrs Memorial trophy. Botsa Youth and Sports Association (BYSA) edged out Daklane Football Club by a solitary second half goal in the first match on Saturday. Zakie netted the only goal in the 68th minute of the match. In the second match, Kingdom Steward drubbed Wagers-B 4-0. Two goals each were scored by Kritso (1st and 4th goals) in 4th and 58th minutes and Rock in 42nd and 50th minutes (2nd and 3rd goals) in the match. No match will be played on Sunday. (Correspondent) 15th NDN memorial football trophy DIMAPUR, OCT 11 (NPN): Dimapur Kyong (Lotha) Students’ Union will organize the 15th NDN memorial football trophy from November 1 to 6 at State Stadium, Dimapur. DKSU in a press release said DC Dimapur, Maongwati would grace the inaugural function as the chief guest. While informing that the winner and 1st runners up would be awarded cash prize with certificates and trophy, the Union said individual prizes including best goal keeper, best defender, best player and highest scorer would also be awarded. It has asked interested teams to collect forms at Vishal Studio, opposite SM College. Meanwhile, the DKSU has also asked the winner and 1st runners up of the 14th NDN memorial football trophy to submit their running trophies to the union office (Lotha Hoho Ki) on or before October 31. Ganguly denies outburst against selectors BANGALORE, OCT 11 (PTI): Sourav Ganguly on Saturday denied that he had given any interview to a Bengali daily in which he had lashed out at the national selectors for treating him as the “sacrificial goat” all the time. “The reports of an interview from Bengali daily published in various newspapers are false. I have not given an interview of that sort to anyone and hopefully also in future,” Ganguly said in a statement which was read out by Indian team logistics manager Russel Radhkrishnan. “I would request you to clarify with me before publishing news from other sources,” he added.
