Holy Cross Church celebrates parish feast

Holy Cross Church Dimapur celebrated parish feast Sunday with Rt. Rev. Dr. John M. Bishop of Diphu Assam as the main celebrant for the occasion. The celebration began with traditional song from women society of parish representing various communities, Niley Zeliang gave the introduction to the mass in which, she highlighted the importance of the day and she also mentioned the power of the cross, the cross being the centre in the life of every Christian, further added that "Jesus changed us by his cross and death". The Parish Feast of the church coincided with canonization of St. Alphonsa, the first Indian women Saint being recognized by the Catholic Church. In his sermon the main celebrant Rt. Rev. Dr. John M. began with a narration on how the Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire during the reign of St. Constantine, Emperor of Rome and how St, Helena discovered "the real Cross of Jesus" which is still being kept in basilica of the exaltation of the cross in Rome and said that many miracles accompanied the real cross of Jesus. The Bishop based his homily on the power of the cross, the importance of the sign of the cross and the experience one gets by the power of the cross of Jesus. He also touched upon the life of St. Alphonsa, who never complain about her sickness, lived and died a saintly death. Rev.Fr. Joseph K in his testimony said he experienced the intervention of St. Alphonsa when he was a kid, as he was unable to speak and after the pilgrimage to the tomb of the saint, he got the power of speech. Prayer of the faithful was well planned and prayed by selected youths from different communities of the parish. The celebration also witness the first communion being given to the young children. John Mao vice president of the parish council, while proposing the vote of thanks mentioned certain groups and individuals for their support and presented a shawl to the main celebrant. He thanked Rt. Rev. Dr. John M. Bishop of Diphu, Assam for his presence, the Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, superintendent of Police, traffic police for their cooperation and support, the parish priest assistant parish priest, the Bethany sisters, the choirs, the musicians, contributor of sound systems, youths, Mao community, Lotha community for their corporation, the women society, Angami community, Sema Community and also thanked all everyone who attended the programme. The celebration was attended by about three thousand people. The most important part on the celebration saw the procession with the 'Blessed Sacrament' carried by the Bishop in a vehicle adorned with flowers and children. The procession covered areas like the holy cross church, City tower area, Khermahal, Church Road, Chakasang colony, Blue hill area, Eros line, Nyamo Road, which was followed by lunch for all the participants.
