Two NSCN (I-M) activists were shot dead Sunday evening at Mahur town near Haflong in Assam. The deceased persons were identified as “Captain” Chinaochung Chamroy, son of Changkhareng of Halang village and “Sgt Major” Ngachanreithingpam of Phatang village both hailing from Ukhrul district. MIP sources in the NSCN (I-M) said the duo was shot dead by their own comrade who had recently joined their group along with six arms from the rival NSCN (K) faction. NSCN (I-M) said it was still investigating the causes behind the incident. Condolence: The NSCN (I-M) has expressed “deep shock” at the sudden demise of “Captain” Chinaochung Chamroy and “Sgt Major” Ngachanreithingpam on Sunday at Ragaying Camp, Mahur Sub-division of NC Hills in Assam. NSCN (I-M) general staff officer, ‘Brig’ M. Joshua in a statement said the duo who served the Naga nation in true nationalist spirit “became victims to the heinous design of deserters”. Saluting the brave departed souls, the NSCN (I-M) said they shall always be remembered and cherished. It extended heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families and prayed Almighty God to give strength to overcome the tragedy.
