Information campaign at Wokha

A three day public information campaign about the flagship programmes of central government in Wokha is under way at Wokha. The campaign is organized by Press Information Bureau (PIB), government of India, ministry of information and broadcasting in association with other sister media units of the ministry of information and broadcasting namely DAVP, DFP, song and drama division and Prasar Bharti. The public information campaign has been highlighting the centrally sponsored schemes- Bharat Nirman programmes like rural telephony, Rajeev Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana, accelerated rural drinking water supply schemes; and other flagship schemes like Sarv Siksha Abhiyan, mid-day meal, national rural health mission, right to information act etc. The units of directorate of field publicity, Kohima has already started thematic campaigns in the nearby villages namely: Wokha, Longsa, Koiyo, Longsachung, Humstso, Elumyo etc. The inaugural program was held Thursday at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Wokha Town where photo exhibition of directorate of field publicity was inaugurated by Nyanbemo Ngullie, chairman Lotha Hoho, as chief guest. While delivering his speech, he said the district had been getting all government schemes and projects but the success of government plans and policies depended upon the people. Further he made an appeal to the PIB on behalf of the Lotha (Kyong) Hoho that in future all central schemes and funds should be directly handled by central agency where justification and spot verification to be done by central agency involving the civil societies of the area. Other who spoke at the function include Project Director DRDA Wokha Motsuthung Lotha. Wokha District had finished 132 projects which include rural roads, irrigation and horticulture etc under national rural guarantee scheme. Deputy Commissioner Wokha A.Woben Lotha, president GB's Association Wokha District Nzanbemo Lotha, Chairman Wokha Town council Wopenthung Kikon, Col. V. Richard Blaize Commandant 41st Assam Rifles Wokha. A large number of experts and officials will address the meeting during the technical sessions. Special interactive sessions were also held among the audiences, stakeholders, NGOs, Self Help Group Members and invites speakers on specific topics. Government officials, who are implementing flagship schemes, will be answering queries of the audiences and media persons as well.Being organized throu-ghout the country, the public information campaign is a mass oriented awareness drive about the flagship programmes of Central Government. The campaign, which is an innovative national programme to publicize certain developmental flagship programmes of the central schemes. As per decision taken at the level of principal secretary to the prime minister, Press Information Bureau has been designated as the nodal agency to coordinate these campaigns. The campaign aims at empowering poor and illiterate section of rural population by providing them with access to information on various policies and programmes under these key development schemes sponsored by the Central Government. Another basic objective of the campaign is to make people aware of rights and responsibilities and motivate them to participate and derive benefits out of these schemes. The campaign would culminate on October 25.
