1 shot dead, 3 injured

One NSCN (K) activist was shot dead while three civilians were injured in a shoot out by Assam Police at Longti colony, Karbi Anglong, Wednesday at around 6:15 am. Dimapur police said the slain activist was identified as one Mughavi of NSCN (K). Sources said he was a “Lieutenant”. The three injured civilians all of whom have been admitted at different hospitals in Dimapur were identified as Updesh, a mason by profession, son of Ram Balat Mato, Urmila Devi, wife of Rudal Mato and Rita Limbu, wife of Shibu Limbu. Urmila Devi who sustained bullet injury on her right thigh was said to be in a critical condition. Quoting Assam counterpart, Dimapur police said the incident occured when the activist ran into a police patrolling party and was ordered to stop. It was reported that the activist was shot dead when he attempted to escape. Unconfirmed reports alleged that the activist was shot dead after being injured. The three civilians were injured in the crossfire. The dead body was taken by the Assam police to Diphu for post mortem. Assam police recovered one .32 pistol, four empty shells and two live rounds of ammunition. Meanwhile, residents of the area condemned the incident, describing it as indiscriminate firing in public area. Residents also said the OC Khatkhati police station handed over a cash of Rs. 12, 000 for necessary treatment of the three injured civilians.
